Life of an Email

  • Someone sends a message to you. Through the use of MX Records, the originating mail server determines that the mail must be sent through CleanMessage.

  • The message hits our mail servers.

  • The message is scanned for viruses.

  • The message is subjected to thousands of tests to determine whether it is spam.
During this process, the message is assigned a "Spam Score" based on which tests are successful and which aren't.

  • When your company signed up for our service, the network administrator set a "threshhold." Any messages whose score is at or above the threshhold will be quarantined as spam. Any that score below the threshhold are passed on to you.

  • Our system sends periodic notifications when it has quarantined spam meant for you. You get an email with links that you can click on to release the message or whitelist the sender.

  • If the message doesn't score high enough to be considered spam, or if you release it or whitelist it, it is delivered to your Inbox and you eventually read it.
